Hi all,
The Tuesday ride had a rude awaking today on Casserly Road. One lane of the road had already been
covered with tar & gravel and Public Works was running traffic control on the other lane. Varnie
had been already been done. The ride back from Gizditch had to be changed to different roads.
Chip sealing or tar & gravel is now in full force on many county roads. This is where a layer of
tar is put down and then small rocks spread over the tar. It is left for a number of days with
warning signs about loose gravel on road. It is extremely dangerous riding on the loose rocks.
Once the loose rocks are swept off the road should still be avoided for another couple of weeks as
pockets of loose gravel will still be present.
Ride leaders will need to check the county website for road closures. This will only tell you when
the work is being done. You will have to decide if a road is ready to ride again.

Example:
Road Name Location Description
Status
Airport Blvd From Green Valley Rd to Pajaro Ln Maintenance Operations Closed to Through Traffic -
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm - August 13, 2008 - Weather Permitting
Many of our favorite roads in the south county will be getting this treatment in the coming weeks.
Just look at the size of the enormous rock pile the county has built on San Andreas.
Enjoy the (bumpy) Ride!
